Lead Chair:
PETE BRETON
Co-Chief Creative Officer, Cossette
After graduating from McGill University, Pete started his advertising career in Account Management; working with clients such as Kellogg, Bell Mobility, Cadbury and P&G. Having helped launch successful, strategic campaigns as a suit, Pete took everything he’d learned and moved into the creative department. In his role as a copywriter, he has worked on a diverse roster of clients including: Rogers AT&T, General Motors, Motrin, Lexus, Stella Artois, Budweiser, Alexander Keith’s, Quaker and most recently WestJet and Molson.
Before being named Co-Chief Creative Officer of Cossette, Pete was a Creative Director focused on McDonalds, General Mills and Coke Zero. Prior to joining Cossette, Pete was Group Creative Director at TAXI advertising and design.
Pete’s work has been recognized both nationally and internationally including Gold and Silver Lions from Cannes, The One Show, Clios and D&AD.
Direct Chair:
CARLOS GARAVITO
Chief Creative Officer, OgilvyOne worldwide Toronto
Throughout his 15-year career, Carlos has focused on creating experiences for consumers across a multitude of touch points. His focus has been digital marketing and how it effectively integrates with traditional media including television, print, events, direct mail and most recently social media strategies.
His appreciation for marketing and communications is driven by a passion for big ideas, strategy, flawless execution, innovation and his proven understanding of the many channels and emerging technologies. All these make his work relevant, contemporary and usable – while never forgetting the very measurable bottom line.
Today, Carlos is Chief Creative Officer at OgilvyOne in Toronto.
Previously, he was Creative Director at Cossette/Fjord on the Bell Canada business.
During his many years of experience in marketing, traditional advertising and interactive communications, Carlos has been responsible for creative and strategic solutions to Fortune 500 brands spanning numerous verticals: telecommunications, consumer packaged goods, automotive, technology, pharmaceuticals and sophisticated eCommerce.
His client list includes a multitude of international brands: Alliance Atlantis, American Express, AOL, Bayer Health Care, Cisco, Coca-Cola, DHL, GM, The Home Depot., Kraft, Microsoft, Rogers Communications, Sony and Yahoo!
His work has been internationally recognized by The One Show, The New York Festivals, The London International Advertising Awards, The International ECHO Awards, The Advertising and Design Club of Canada, Communication Arts Magazine, Strategy Magazine, Marketing Magazine, the Canadian Marketing Association and the Retail Council of Canada.
Carlos is an Advisory Board member to Seneca’s Digital Media Arts program – SENECA@YORK (Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology’). He is also a member of the ECHO Academy of Direct Marketing Arts & Sciences.
Interactive Chair:
ANDREW MCCARTNEY
Managing Director, Tribal DDB Toronto
Andrew brings over 12 years of marketing strategy and interactive marketing expertise having begun his career with an internet start-up while in his undergraduate studies at Wilfrid Laurier. Andrew has a bachelor of business degree with a specialization in marketing from the Wilfrid Laurier University Business School and has deep experience in Interactive Marketing with expertise in online advertising, mobile, social & search marketing, eCommerce & Analytics.
He began his professional career in business strategy consulting at Monitor Company, HQ in Cambridge, Mass where he consulted in the financial services, manufacturing and media sectors. In 1999, he joined CyberPlex Interactive Media in 1999 to help launch the Interactive Marketing Practice where he pitched, won and managed campaigns with Bank of Montreal InvestorLine, Dell Computers and Unilever. Andrew’s next move was to Ammirati Puris, where he took on the challenge of opening up a Digital Marketing practice. As a member of the Ammirati Puris Senior Management Team, he successfully established interactive assignments with Labatt, Clarica, Johnson & Johnson and Unilever, where he helped launched the relationship marketing program, HomeBasics in Canada, with the first generation of www.homebasics.ca.
In 2002, Andrew relocated to Vancouver and joined Blast Radius to lead up its Business Development efforts on the West Coast. He was successful establishing relationship with Future Shop & Best Buy Canada, Intrawest, EA Sports, Microsoft and Crystal Decisions. He later moved onto a Client Director role and was promoted to Client Partner where he managed a P&L, leading relationships with EA, Intrawest, Nintendo, Sharpie and BMW Canada.
Since August 2008, Andrew has been running Tribal DDB Toronto, as Managing Director helping clients such Unilever, Capital One, Diageo and Clorox solve their marketing challenges through interactive and social media.
Young Media Chair:
SANDRA CLARK
VP Client Services Director, PHD
Sandra Clark has 20 years of media experience working with a wide variety of clients. Her media career started at PHD (known then as HYPN) where she worked on clients such as Honda Canada, Club Monaco and Labatt.
She spent a couple of years at M2 Universal working on the Royal Bank business but was wooed back to PHD as the Team Leader on the newly consolidated Unilever Planning and Buying assignment.
Over the past few years she has managed several key accounts including Loblaws, Shaw Communications, Hershey’s and Quiznos, but is now back heading the PHD Client Service Team in charge of Unilever
Sandra is greatly admired as a “players’ coach” who challenges her team and the agency to think differently and constantly improve. She manages to stay on top of her game at work, and keep up the busy life of a Mom!
